acampingconundrum - about the bok

A heart-pounding cozy mystery filled with twists, turns, and canine charm. Perfect for fans of page-turning whodunits and outdoor adventures!

Private Investigator Liz Adams isn’t thrilled when her husband, Brad, suggests a camping getaway to South Carolina’s picturesque Poinsett Park. The mention of camping brings back a haunting memory of a childhood Girl Scout trip that went terribly wrong. But for Brad, the park is a refuge—a chance to relive happy moments from his past.

The long weekend escape takes a dark turn when Brad discovers a woman’s lifeless body in the park’s peaceful lake. The victim, the landlady of a strip center in the neighboring town of Sumter, was notorious for making enemies among her tenants. With no shortage of motives but no clear suspects, Liz and her truth-sniffing Labrador, Duke, embark on a quest to identify the culprit.

As Liz races to uncover the truth and put the killer in jail, the couple experiences one camping disaster after another. Will justice be served? Or will an unexpected twist of karma change everything?

Here’s a special recipe from Stacy for you to enjoy while reading A Camping Conundrum!

S’mores Bars

Makes 16 bars

Ingredients:

½ cup unsalted butter (softened)

¾ cup light brown sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup graham cracker crumbs

½ teaspoon baking powder

¼ teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 heaping cup store bought marshmallow crème

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8 inch square baking pan on all sides. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar. Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix until combined. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, graham cracker crumbs, baking powder, and salt. Pour the flour mixture into the large bowl and beat on medium speed until combined. Spread two-thirds of the dough into the pan. Then spread the marshmallow crème on top. Evenly sprinkle the chocolate chips on top of the crème. Form the remaining dough into 8-10 round balls and then flatten. Layer the flattened dough in intervals on top of the cholate chips, leaving some of the marshmallow/chocolate chip areas exposed. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the top is lightly browned. Remove from oven and allow the bars to cool. Once cooled, cut into squares.

Enjoy!

A couple of fun facts about A Camping Conundrum:

PI Liz Adams's Girl Scout camping experience is based on something that happened to me at that age but in Audubon Park in New Orleans.

Several of the businesses in the nearby town of Sumter are based on local businesses in Houston - fictionalized and transplanted there - including the insurance agency, the breakfast and lunch spot, and the tavern.

Liz's sidekick, Duke, is loosely based on our own Lab, Eve. Although she can't detect when people are lying, she's a communicator!

I hope you enjoy the story. I had a ton of fun writing it.

Looks very exciting Do you write in a daily journal?

    • Hi Heather,

I do. I journal every morning. Often ideas for the stories will bubble up while I'm writing. My day doesn't go right if I skip that.

How about you? Do you journal?

      Take care,
      Stacy

  16. Jamie Martin

Do you have any advice for new writers?

    • Hi Jamie,

I do. When I finally got serious about finishing the first book, Charleston Conundrum, I set three goals 1) Take classes on the craft of writing. I gobbled up every writing class on MasterClass and any free class I could find. 2) Enter contests that offer feedback. I entered The Emily and another national contest that no longer exists. The feedback not only helped me identify my genre, it also gave me confidence to move forward. 3) Join a writer's group. I joined League of Romance Writers. Even though it's romance focused, they have writer's across all genres. And lastly, persevere. The initial learning curve can be daunting, and it's a long game. If it's your passion, as it is mine, it's pure joy crafting the stories and interacting with other readers and authors. Good luck!
