One of my favourites is where Sam (the PI) meets members of the cult for the first time. He’s been invited to a wake for Sister Olive’s dead husband. It’s in a creepy church hall in Chester. The humour is dark, and like many of the passages, was fun to write. At the end of the scene Olive invites members to eat special chocolate cake which she baked herself (laced with cannabis). The candles are lit, whilst everyone makes a wish, but they’re everlasting candles and she can’t blow them out. For once, she is a little fazed, but turns it to her own advantage.

You’ve got it Carol! As the book progresses you learn about Sister Olive and her fantasies. She’s a piece of work but there’s laughter too. I’ve recently read an extract of the book where Olive is about to dispose of her husbands ashes into the sea. It made the audience giggle. It could have been a very dark story, but humour lightened it. I hope it works for you.

A ghostly presence made itself felt during a cult ceremony Sister Olive then took the cult over wreaking havoc in her wake, but if you read it, I hope you have some sympathy for her. It begins with Miriam and her old house, a husband who is gradually sinking into madness, and a ghostly presence appearing to her son. It builds from there, as the characters develop and become real. That is until the end where she goes too far, and gets her comeuppance. The members of the cult reveal themselves as the book progresses. They are not what they seem.

As the story builds sometimes the characters were hard to keep under control. I had a plot in my head, but what transpired wasn’t always what I’d planned. I kept most of the cult members in the shadows until later on in the book. Some way on in the book Sam meets Sister Olive for the first time when he poses as a prospective cult member. By then the reader knows a lot about her back story and Sam will soon find out how dangerous she can be. Does she get away with murder? Possibly!

When I was developing Olive’s character I felt sympathy for her. She built fantasies for herself, invented scenarios which led her into dark places. The impact she had on those around her lead to a strange finale on the cliffs of Purbeck.
Fun to write and I hope you enjoy it. There are lots of characters in the story and a touch of the paranormal.

A story to keep you on the edge. It begins by setting a scene where Miriam realises she has to protect her son from evil. She grapples with the idea that her husband has become possessed. Whilst she seeks sanctuary the reader learns about the cult and their shenanigans. Sister Olive takes over and becomes more and more unhinged. I used humour to lighten her darkness, but don’t be fooled she was a horror!

I hope you do find it a great read. Maybe a little different with its quirky characters. When a mother is confronted with evil, she has to be the sensible one because she has no idea what she’s dealing with. The cult spawned strange beliefs, members as shadowy figures seeking different paths. Sister Olive becomes their leader and whilst her murderous behaviour remains undiscovered she reveals her true self. Will Sam catch her in the end?

There are some interesting characters in the book. Will is a shadowy figure. It was he that started the group, but with the help of Sister Olive, he loses control of it and control of himself. Miriam his wife, has to face the evil she confronts and in the end seeks sanctuary. Olive meanwhile carries out what she thinks Will would want her to do with dire consequences. Purbeck where the story is set, has ancient barrows as well as sea and majestic cliffs. It is here that Olive will force a finale.
I hope you find it interesting and it keeps you reading. I tend to go for a slow burn at the beginning to establish characters, then it becomes a page turner.
